NH Special Education Process

Steps in the NH Special Education Process

*All steps require parent permission

• Referral is made to School District (anyone may make a referral)
• Referral meeting is held within 15 business days of receipt of referral
• If an educational disability is suspected, evaluations will be requested
• Within 60 calendar days, the evaluations will be completed and the team will meet to review the results to determine if the student has an educational disability and is eligible for special education and related services
• If eligible, the team will develop an IEP within 30 calendar days of identification
• Placement in LRE is determined after approval of IEP 
• Ongoing monitoring and yearly review of IEPs
• The team must re-determine eligibility for special education every 3 years
