Academic Development

 

Standard 1:

Students will acquire the attitudes, knowledge, and skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the life span.

 

1.       Students will apply knowledge of study skills to academic demands

2.       Students will use communication skills to be able to know when, where and how to seek academic help

3.       Students will identify attitudes and behaviors which lead to successful learning.

4.       Students will design a program of studies related to their personal and career goals.

 

Standard 2:

Students will complete school with the academic preparation essential to choose from a wide range of post-secondary options, including college.

 

1.       Students will use assessment results in academic planning.

2.       Students will write a report on a business or profession

3.       Students will show evidence of effective time management

4.       Students will organize and apply academic information from a variety of sources.

 

Standard 3:

Students will understand the relationship of academics to the world of work, and to life at home and in the community.

 

1.       Students will demonstrate the ability to manage school, studies, extra-curricular and family life.

 

 

Career Development

 

Standard 1:

Students will acquire the skills to investigate the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make appropriate career decisions.

 

1.       Students will be able to evaluate and interpret career information.

2.       Students will be able to examine adult role models to determine demands of the role for specific knowledge and skills.

3.       Students will be able to consult with and observe adult role models at work, identifying elements of their work role.

4.       Students will demonstrate knowledge of the changing workplace.

 

Standard 2:

Students will employ strategies to achieve future career success and satisfaction.

 

1.       Students will use employability and job readiness skills in internships, mentoring, shadowing, and other world of work experiences.

2.       Students will complete a report on a business or profession to share with others.

3.       Students will be able to identify and explain the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees.

4.       Identify and explain various occupational cluster groupings.

 

Standard 3:

Students will understand the relationship between personal qualities, education and training, and the world of work.

 

1.       Students will describe the effect of work on lifestyles.

2.       Students will be able to evaluate the relationship between their individual traits and achieving individual, social, educational, and career goals.

3.       Students will be able to review and update an individual educational and career plan based on progress and continued and changing interests.

 

 

Personal Social Development

 

Standard 1:

Students will acquire the attitudes, knowledge, and interpersonal skills to help them understand and respect self and others.

 

1.       Students will be able to demonstrate interpersonal skills required for working with and for others.

2.       Students will be able to identify their interests, abilities, values and attitudes in relation to their personal, social, educational and career goals.

3.       Students will recognize change as a part of growth

 

Standard 2

Students will make decisions, set goals, and take appropriate action to achieve goals.

 

1.       Students will be able to apply the steps of the decision-making process to their personal lives.

2.       Students will be able to make effective decisions while demonstrating respect for themselves and others.

3.       Students will know when peer pressure in influencing a decision

 

Standard 3

Students will understand safety and survival skills.

 

1.       Students will be able to demonstrate assertiveness skills.

2.       Students will be aware of their responsibility for seeking help in school and the community.

3.       Students will be able to describe harassment issues in the workplace.

4.       Students will describe the relationship among rules, laws, safety, and the protection of individual rights.
