Mythical Creatures - Dragons |
![]() |
| Many different cultures believed in dragons, such as the Chinese, Japanese, Roman, and European (in the Middle Ages) cultures. China and Japan thought fossils and bones of animals long ago were dragon bones, so they ground them up and used them as medicine. They also used the sign of a dragon as royalty and good luck. The people also believed dragons gave generous gifts! The Romans said dragons looked like snakes. The Europeans thought that (unlike the Chinese and Japanese) dragons were evil. For them, these mystical creatures loved gold, so they stole it or sometimes, would hold young maidens for ransom. They were thought to have legs, wings, a massive body, and would breathe fire, like in fairy tales. These people also thought old animal bones were those of dragons. |
