Photo Album - Scotland and York - Part One

It was a cold and frosty morning when Dr. Novak and I walked down to Prince Street to pick up Mrs. Barry.  On the way to the tour bus, Dr. Novak slipped on the icy pavement!  Even though it was cold out, we decided to sit on the top of the double decker bus.  The incredible views of Edinburgh Castle made all the cold worth it.  I am NOT so sure that Dr. Novak and Mrs. Barry were convinced of this.
To see the castle, we jumped off the tour bus and climbed up the steep hill to the castle.  On the way up, a young actor was dressed up in costume to represent Braveheart.  My sister convinced me to have my picture taken with her and the actor.  He got us laughing by making strange faces and horrible noises.  We left the gentleman a donation to the Leukemia Fund.
Hope you enjoy some of the views from the castle.
After walking around the castle, we all jumped back on the bus and rode down the Royal Mile.  The end of the Royal Mile is Palace of Holyroodhouse.  This is a royal palace that is visited by Queen Elizabeth II and her family.  Two days before we visited Prince Charles had spent the night.
The Palace of Holyroodhouse was the home of Mary Queen of Scots for a short while.  While Mary lived in the palace, her secretary was brutally murdered.  Numerous of Mary's possessions are displayed in glass cases in the room next to her bedroom.  Mary Queen of Scots was beheaded for treason against her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I of England in 1587,  If you would like to know more about Mary Queen of Scots, click here.
The pictures below are of the front door of the Palace of Holyroodhouse and of the ruined abbey,

The City of York, England

Monday night at dinner, my sister and I discussed where we were going the next day.  We had SO many places that we could go.  I decided on York, England.  It took about 5 hours to drive there but it was an interesting drive since we crossed the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
York Minister is the largest medieval cathedral in Northern Europe.  You can find out more about York Minister .  Mrs. Novak has been to some of the loveliest cathedrals in the world.  If you are interested in cathedrals, go to Cathedral Math that Mrs. Novak did up for the Virtual Fieldtrip 2001-2002.
York was a fun city to wander around with the center being blocked from traffic with many, many small shops.  The city is surround by a medieval wall that is over 2 miles long.  We both wished that we had more time to spend in the city since we only scratched the surface of the antique stores....

From York, Mrs. Barry and I drove to the Manchester, England area.  Helen Tattersall of Runshaw Stud treated to a lovely visit with about 28 of her lovely Section A Welsh ponies.
It was a VERY good thing that we visited with Ms. Tattersall.  I was very much missing my animals.  It helped a little bit to spend time with these lovely ponies.
