Lesson Plan for Fairy Tales and the Brothers Grimm

Objectives:
Students will be able to contrast and compare fairy tales.
Students will be able to do research on the computer.  
Materials:
Learning logs, mapping chart, grading rubric,  use of computer lab and/or computer/s in classroom.
Procedures:
Start lesson by  talking about fairy tales and reading at least one fairy tale.  This could also be used as a review exercise on fairy tales that were introduced earlier in the year.  Have student do the learning logs.  This could be done a group activity using the large screen monitor.  The mapping chart could be done either on the computer or with a book that the students have selected.  The computer does offer students over 200 fairy tales.  
Time:
One/two class periods for the learning logs and one class period for the Fairy Tale Mapping activity.
Extension: 
Have students go through the writing process and write their own Fairy Tales.

Curriculum Standard 4. Students will demonstrate competence in understanding, appreciating, interpreting, and critically analyzing classical and contemporary American and British literature as well as literary works translated into English.
Understand the characteristics of a variety of simple genres including fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, fairy tales, poetry, plays, fables, and folktales.
English Language Uses
Curriculum Standard 6. Students will demonstrate competence in using the interactive language processes of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing to communicate effectively.
Use the tools of information technology to enhance written and spoken messages.
