Lesson Plan for Castles

Objectives:
Students will be introduced to castles and the Middle Ages.
Students will understand more about the parts of a castle.
Students will be able to do research on the computer.  
Materials:
Learning log, use of computer lab and/or computer/s in classroom. Paper milk cartons, paper towel and toilet paper rolls, paper cups and any other small cardboard boxes, card board squares for each child, glue and paint if wanted.  
Procedures:
Read a book that has a castle in it.  Start talking about what a castle is.  Have students go to computers and start to do their research.  After they have finished exploring, have the students make their castle. 
Time:
One class periods to introduce castles, one class period for the learning log and word search and one class period for Castle Building activity.

World History Curriculum Standard 18. Students will demonstrate a knowledge of the chronology and significant developments of world history including the study of ancient, medieval, and modern Europe (Western civilization) with particular emphasis on those developments that have shaped the experience of the entire globe over the last 500 years and those ideas, institutions, and cultural legacies that have directly influenced American thought, culture, and politics.
English Language Uses
Curriculum Standard 6. Students will demonstrate competence in using the interactive language processes of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing to communicate effectively.
Use the tools of information technology to enhance written and spoken messages.
