Around Adelaide

On Sunday, February 18th, Dr. Novak and I spent the morning walking under the lush shade trees at the Adelaide Botanical Gardens.  This picture was taken in the rose gardens.  Adelaide Botanical Gardens was the first place I got to see the Wollemi Pine. If you want to learn more about the 'living fossil' go to: http://www.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/html/Wollemi.html

Just before I arrived to visit Mrs. Kilsby at her Welsh pony stud on Wednesday, February 21st, she killed this brown snake.  Since I have left Australia, Mrs. Kilsby has killed two more brown snakes that were in her barn.
This is the house that we stayed in at Bungaree Station.  If you would like to see more about this sheep station, go to http://bungareepl.com.au/
This is a picture of one of the many deer that lived in the pen near our little house where we stayed at Bungaree Station.
After talking to Tyson's and Nathan's class on Friday, February 23rd, Dr. Novak and I drove about 40 km to Burra and visited this old copper mine.
These are small train cars that carried the copper ore from the mine to where they processed the ore.

Around the Great Ocean Drive

This is the lovely Blue Lake in Mt. Gambier.  I will never forget my bath in its blue water.

After leaving Mt. Gambier and the Blue Lake, Dr. Novak and I drove down the curvy narrow two lane road to the coast of Australia.  These pictures are taken on our trip along the Great Coastal Drive.  It was a very sunny day and we stopped to see the many huge rock formations.  The wind blew in hard off the ocean and the seas pounded on the shore.

Around Sydney
The Sydney Bridge

While in Sydney, we stayed in The Rock area.  Near the quay in Sydney Harbor and not far from where we were staying, was a small stone cottage.  This cottage is where some of the original convict settlers lived.  This picture is of some of the manacles and handcuffs they wore.

On Friday we went to the Taronga Zoo.  Here are some of the pictures.  If you want to see more about the Taronga Zoo, take a look at this website: http://www.zoo.nsw.gov.au/

I bet you know what kind of animals this is.

This is a red neck wallaby. It was fun walking around inside the large cage with the wallabies and emus.  The animals went about their life's pretty much ignoring us annoying humans.
This is a shingle backed lizard.  His tail is shaped very much like his head.  This is very useful to his survival when he is being attacked by predators. Predators have trouble figuring out where his head is!

This is Dr. Novak and I on Friday, March 2nd on our return ferry ride from the Taronga Zoo. It was a beautiful day and our last full day in Australia.  I left Australia at 3:45pm on Saturday and arrived at 10:15am on Saturday morning.  I "arrived" in Los Angeles BEFORE I left Australia!!!
