Lesson Plan for Fourth Grade States Project
Objectives:
Social
Studies: To make students aware of five regions of the
United States and all 50 states.
Language Arts: Reading and listening .
Technology: Mouse skills, going to Internet Explorer,
clicking on hyperlinks,
use of Back Button, learning how to do PowerPoint,
cutting and pasting, inserting clip art, selecting slide
type, background, and transitions, saving in Grades
folder, and starting slide presentation mode.
Overview:
Week
One: Start PowerPoint slides. Week Two: Complete
PowerPoint by combining slides. Week Three: Show
presentations to the rest of the class.
Learner Outcomes:
Students will create a PowerPoint presentation (one
slide for each state) with state motto, map of the state
and a license plate. Students will select
backgrounds and slide transitions. The final
product will be a slide show of all 50 states.

the chronology and significance of the unfolding story
of America including the history of their community, New
Hampshire, and the United States.

of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing to
communicate effectively.

Materials:
Computers,
pencils, and paper.
Procedure:.
1.) Class one, explain the whole project that requires
students to do a PowerPoint slide for each or their
states with the name of the state, map of the state and
a license plate of the state.
2.) Using the SmartBoard or large screen monitor,
introduce the States Project website with 50states.com
to get the motto and R.T. Blank Plates to get license
plates.
3.)
Introduce PowerPoint including how to insert clip art
and how to copy and paste using the right mouse button.
Have students go to PowerPoint and start their slide
(s).
4.) Class two, before students go to computers
(using the SmartBoard or large screen monitor),
demonstrate how to add backgrounds and do slide
transitions.
5.) As each student finishes their slides, work with
them and combine all slides into one presentation.
6.) Have students show their presentations using the
SmartBoard.
