Our View of the Rainforest Layers

Emergent Layer
The Emergent layer has the tallest trees in the Rainforest. They go up to 270 ft. or 18 m. The Emergent layer has many birds and many insects living in its environment!
Canopy
The upper part of the rainforest is called the canopy because it is a tall covering layer.  This environment contains many different life forms such as insects, birds, reptiles, mammals, and more!
Understory
The understory of the rainforest is a dark, cool environment.  It is found under the leaves of the canopy, but does not quite reach the ground.
Forest Floor
The forest floor is the lowest layer of the rainforest it is about 3 feet from the ground.  This layer does not receive any light because of the leaves of the canopy are covering and blocking the sun’s rays.  The largest animals of the rainforest generally live here.
