"Obadiah Comes Fourteen"  Activity
 A Telling Tombstone Tale

In 1977, Mrs. Novak moved into her house that was built in 1735 by Deacon Joseph Fletcher.  In many ways, my house is just like WHERE you live yet, it is different.  The walls are old and huge beams hold the house together.   The floors sag and have marks on them from the countless people have walked them.  It can be rather overwhelming thinking about ALL the people that have lived here for more than 260 years .
One of the first things that my children asked me was when we moved in "Is this HOUSE haunted?"  After living here over 25 years, I can say for sure that this house is NOT haunted.  BUT the house does tell a tale.  IF you look hard, pieces of history are all around me.  All the people that have lived here before me share this house with me.
I decided to learn more about  the people that built my house.  I knew that they were very brave.  When they moved here, it was a very wild area with Indians raids still going on.  Through research  at various libraries, I have found some fascinating stories of these people.  Come and visit my old house and learn more about its' history.  Click here to do a Virtual Tour of Fletcher Hill Farm.

WHAT is your assignment to complete  "A Telling Tombstone Tale" ?  You pick one person from either  "Obadiah Comes Fourteen"  Family Tree or a person from the Virtual Tour of Fletcher Hill Farm, and create a tombstone for them.  Make sure that you have spent time looking at other tombstones from  local graveyards.  To help you with the dates on the tombstones, use the Timeline below.  Remember YOU are creating a tombstone that a grieving person in Dunstable would be honored to place on their beloved's grave.
