Native Americans - Overview

     About 12,000 years ago, people from Asia crossed a land bridge from Siberia to what is today, Alaska. These people spread across the Americas.  Some scientists today are debating these dates Early Americans - Overview.
    The respect of the natural world was a common bond shared by all of these people.  Most historians divide these people into five areas that had similar culture and environmental factors.  These areas are Northeast Woodlands, Southeast Woodlands, Great Plains, Southwest, and Northwest.
     The four websites below will help in your research on Native Americans.

      WHAT should you be looking for on these websites?
1. You need to describe what type of housing was common in your area and what it was made of.  There may be more than one kind of housing.
2. You need to describe what food was common in your area and how they got it.  Were they hunters?  Were they gatherers?  Were they farmers?
3. You need to describe the clothing and what it was made of. 
4. What part of North America (including state names) are they from?  What is the habitat like?  What is the weather like? 

     After you have researched the above four questions, you may choose some additional topics :  Spiritual beliefs, sports, leisure, music and dance, instruments, art, jobs, transportation, warfare, games, and toys.
