On the Trail of Coronado

Where do you start on a research project?
The first thing that you need is a pen/pencil and a piece of paper or two.  To make thing easier for all, we are going to be using two special pieces of paper.   We are going to be using Research Strategy Tip Sheets and Research Note Cards.

I like to start with an encyclopedia first to get some quick facts.  Select a recent up to date encyclopedia and fill out the bibliographic information for your tip sheet.  On your note cards, we are going to be tracking TWO major facts.
When was Coronado born and died?
How many people went Coronado on his expedition?

Using the IPAC, find at least two books on Coronado.  Complete the Research Strategy Tip Sheet.  Fill out your note cards.
Select at least three websites from the list below.  Complete the Research Strategy Tip Sheet. Fill out note cards.

Discoverers Web: Coronado Zoom Explorers - Coronado Desert USA - Coronado

Catholic Encyclopedia - Coronado

European Explorers Discover North America Coronado's Exploration into American Southwest
PBS - The West - Coronado Who Goes There - Coronado Old-time Nebraska - Coronado

Validating your research
Is everything that you read in a book true?  Is everything that you read on the Internet true?  These are HARD questions that you have to answer. The Internet Content Evaluation form is designed to help you come to your own conclusions about websites.

Use this form and assess at least ONE website from the nine listed above.

Another way to validate your research is the deal with expert in the subject matter.  Talk to Mrs. Novak about this.  Perhaps, I have one or two that we can email.
