Mrs. Claudia Novak Job: Systems Administrator/ Title 1 Teacher/Trainer, Nashua School District, Nashua, NH. I work with teachers and students on how to use technology in the classroom. Background: In college, I majored in History and Library Science. I have been working with computers since 1971. In 1976, I went to French cooking school and I love to cook. I have been breeding Welsh ponies and Cobs since 1977. Since 1992, I have traveled with my husband to Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the Netherlands. I am an avid gardener. Likes: Computers, gardening, horses, cooking, history, traveling and reading. Special Interests: I currently have five Welsh Cobs at my farm. I love to study and design gardens. I faithfully write in my garden journal. I like to write about my Welsh Cobs. I love to travel and see new places. Overview: I am very excited about going to China. I have always been fascinated with Chinese history and I have always wanted to see the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City. |

| Dr. Leslie Novak Job: Research Scientist, SSCI, Woburn, MA. I evaluate how well radar works. Background: I graduated from college with a major in Electrical Engineering. I obtained my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California/Los Angles in 1971. I worked at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, MA for over twenty-five years and have retired. I recently joined SSCI as an consultant. I have been an adjunct professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA since 1973 teaching classes in higher mathematics and engineering. Because of my job, I must travel throughout the United States and the world presenting research papers and teaching classes. My research has aided in developing navigational systems for missiles. Special Interests: I play the clarinet, tenor and alto saxophone. I studied music with Lenny Tristrano, a famous blind American jazz musician. Likes: Gardening (growing vegetables), jazz music, World War II history and writing papers on radar. Overview: I know I will enjoy visiting China. I don't know what to expect of the cruise ship. I have never been on a cruise ship before. I hope it is MUCH better than the night train from Budapest to Munich. That was awful. |

| October 12th - Leaving from Boston Logan Airport at
8:00 am. October 13th - Arrive in Shanghai at 3:30pm. October 16th - Dr. Novak teaches his class. October 20th - Leaving for Hangzhou, China. October 22nd - Returning to Shanghai and joining a Viking River Tour. October 24th - Leaving Shanghai and flying to Yichang to board the Viking Century Star. October 25th - Seeing the Three Gorges Dam. October 26th - Seeing Wu, Qutang and Lesser Three Gorges. October 27th - Seeing Snow Jade Cave in Fengdu. October 28th - Disembarking the Viking Century Star and flying to Xian. October 29th - Visiting the Terracotta Army and flying to Beijing. October 30th - Visiting the Great Wall of China and Sacred Way of the Ming. October 31st - Visiting Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and Summer Palace. November 1st - Viking River Tour ends and personal time to visit other great places in Beijing. November 2nd - Leaving at 5:30 pm to fly home to Boston. |
