Like you, we were saddened by recent news from Indiana that three elementary school students, siblings, were killed and another student seriously injured in a school bus accident as they crossed a road to board a school bus. The alleged driver of a pickup truck was arrested and charged with crimes, including passing a school bus when stop arm signal device was extended.
We want to remind motorists to abide by the law and, in turn, keep our students safe. The Nashua School District does all it can to support efforts by First Student school bus transportation company and Nashua Police Department to ensure drivers are aware of school bus safety and the dangers of vehicles illegally passing stopped school buses with red lights flashing and stop arm extended.
When driving, please be aware of students traveling on school buses to and from school, particularly as students are boarding or departing buses. Thank you for your conscientious, law-abiding driving and keeping our students safe.
