Cheat Sheet for Metric Measurements

 

1.     Volume of Regular Shaped Object

a.     Length x Width x Height= volume in cm³

 

2.     Volume of an Irregular Shaped Object (like a rock)

a.     Fill GC with liquid

b.    Drop in object

c.     See how much water rose

d.    Subtract new amount from original amount

e.     The difference is Volume of object in cm³

 

3.     Mass of Object

a.     Make sure all riders at zero

b.    Place object on pan of TBB

c.     Move hundreds, tens, and then ones

d.    Add up all riders and mass is in g (grams)

 

4.     Mass of Certain amount of object (ex. 5 g of salt)

a.     Make sure all riders at zero

b.    Place weighing paper on TBB and find mass (as above)

c.     Add 5 + mass of weighing paper

d.    Present riders to the new number

e.     Slowly add substance until TBB equal at zero

f.      You have then 5g of salt since if you subtract mass of weighing paper you are left with 5g

 

5.     Mass of a Liquid

a.     Find mass of glass

b.    Find mass of glass plus liquid

c.     Subtract 2 and are left with mass of liquid alone

 

6.     Density

a.     Density= mass divided by volume

                                                              i.      D= M/V

                                                            ii.      Units are g/cm³
