Vertebrate presentation/Model or Essay Assignment
Time Line Project Home page
Both Zoology classes taught by your teacher will work
together to create one large geologic time line to scale. The timeline
will include :
- Precambrian environment from Earth's earliest
history to its period of cooling at the end of the Precambrian Era
- 4 eras of time ( Precambrian, Paleozoic,
Mesozoic, Cenozoic ) with the dates of each era
- periods of time and the dates ( Cambrian,
Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Mississippian, Pennsylvanian, Permian,
Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous, Tertiary, Quaternary )
- small images of plants and animals from the time
periods, glued on to the time period
- photos of artists
Time scale - the Earth is about 4.5 billion years
old. Using 5 billion as an outside limit, calculate the length of paper we
would need if we let 1 cm = 1,000 yrs, 10,000, 100,000, 1,000,000, 10,000,000
years
You and your partner will be assigned a time period for
which you will
- EACH be required to contribute a minimum of 4 images
of prehistoric life forms that existed in that time period. The images
can not be larger than 4 x 4 cm. They can be hand drawn and colored ,
printed in color, printed in black and white and then colored. Put your
images in a paper envelope and submit them for a grade. Write our name
on the envelope and the time period.
- work together to create a Power Point
Presentation on a Time period with a minimum of 6 frames. No full
text frames or distracting effects; be sure the font is clear,
large, and distinct
enough to be seen from a distance. Do not use black font on dark blue
background.
- include - title frame of time period with your names
and block # , a picture of the earth and its land masses at that time;
- describe climate and show a complete scene from the
time period,
- show clear images 4 plants and 4 animals which are
each named. Tell something about each animal.
- What were the dominant life forms of the period?
- How did the time period start, change and end?
Did it end with an extinction? What caused the extinction?
- Frame of sources used.
Your power point must be submitted on or before the due
date. Bring in your powerpoint on a CD, on a thumb drive or email it to
your teacher. You may not log onto your school account to access your power
point when it comes time to show the class.
