FMS NECAP SCORES IMPROVE

Short= ly, the FMS staff and students will be celebrating the recent success that we had w= ith the State NECAP Tests. Each team will schedule a team activi= ty at which time ice cream sundaes or ice cream floats will be provided for each student. This celebration= will be to acknowledge the efforts/achievements that have been made by our staff= and our students to reach a higher level of achievement on the 2007 NECAP Test. The remainder of this a= rticle will share with you the 2007 test scores and the improvement that our stude= nts have made in the past year. T= he “Telegraph” reported t= he 2007 NECAP results in the January 30^th issue of their paper. Although these test results reveal= ed that we still have much work to be done, we are extremely proud of the gains that have been made in our building. . We have a building p= lan to guide our efforts and we have a dedicated staff and a motivated student bod= y to reach this goal. We are confi= dent that FMS staff and students will continue to work hard to improve as we wor= k to achieve these high “No Child Left Behind” mandates. As you review these te= st scores from Nashua and the surrounding communities, please note that the FMS scores compare very favorably with the other schools in the Nashua area. We are especially proud of our reading score and the 10 point gain = that was made from the previous year.

STUDENT OF THE MONTH

This year we made the decision to p= rovide more students with the opportunity to be recognized as “Student of the Month.” In the past, we selected one student from every grade level to be identified as student of = the month. This year, we decided = to have each of our “Teams” select a “Student of the Month”. Our “Stud= ents of the Month” are selected for Academic Achievement, Good Character, Contributing to the School, and other positive behaviors observed by the teachers. Our “Students= of the Month for December and January are:

Grade 6

Denisha V= asquez &= nbsp; De= nisha is a hard working individual who strives for excellence. Denisha is caring, funny, and a na= tural born leader. She works hard a= nd has a positive attitude.

Breann Fo= rtier &= nbsp; &nbs= p; Breann is a quiet, gentle student who is consistently willing to help her classmates. Breann is a conscientious student who is a positive role model of all.

Raissa De Oliveira = ; = Raissa always has a smile on her face and she is quick to offer help to another student or teacher. As an ELL student, Raissa has made tremendous progress not only learning English, but= the content material as well. She= has a positive attitude and she meets new challenges with a smile and determinati= on.

Joseph Le= hman &= nbsp; &nbs= p; It doesn’t get any better than having a student like Joey in class. He is always on top of everything.= Joey comes to school even when he isn’t feeling well. Joey is a silent leader who is a positive role mo= del for his peers. Joey is a team player and a day brightener for all.

Grade 7

Kayla Bri= ckey &= nbsp; &nbs= p; Kayla has demonstrated herself to be a model student. She has consistently excelled academically and is a positive role model in the classroom. Kayla has also been a starter on t= he girls’ basketball team this season.

Mohammed Nayeem &n= bsp; Mohammed is a very conscientious worker. He always sets a good example for his peers.&= nbsp; He displays a positive attitude and he is a pleasure to have in clas= s.

Shine Hatfield &nb= sp; = Shine continually strives to do her best. She embraces challenges and she pushes herself to be the best that s= he can be. Shine’s creativ= ity and her independent thinking are g= reatly appreciated by all of her teachers.

Grade 8

Kaitlin Kerrigan &= nbsp; &nbs= p; Kaitlin is a conscientious student who strives to do her best. She is attentive in class and participates in classroom discussions.&nbs= p; She is a helpful individual who is always willing to help other students.

Julianne MacDonald = ; Julianne is an Honor Roll student of exceptional academic excellence and effort. She is a group leader and constant assistant to her peers. She i= s also a member of several Fairg= rounds Middle School athle= tic teams.

Sydney Ramirez &nb= sp; = Sydney is an excel= lent student. She is an outstandin= g writer and she works on our school news paper.&nb= sp; She is always engaged in her classes and she brings a wonderful sens= e of fun and creativity to her peers. She is an emerging leader for her 8^th grade class.

January Students of the Month

Grade 6

Shawn S= peidel &= nbsp; &nbs= p; Shawn is extremely hard-working in al subjects.&= nbsp; He has developed a positive work ethic as well as being a very supportive classmate to all. = He brings his unique, thoughtful opinions to every discussion. Shawn has become a true role model= for his classmates.

Harriso= n Palmer &= nbsp; Harrison gives his all in everything he does. He is very quiet, but makes friend= s with all students. He can always t= urn every situation into a positive on with his smile. Every chance Harrison gets, he is always trying to improve himself by acquiring new knowledge.

Kyle Bu= rns &= nbsp; &nbs= p; Kyle is the first to answer academic questions posed by his teachers and peers.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'> He is also the first to help fello= w Sea Lions in their time of need. = His great character and positive attitude makes him perfect for “student = of the month.”

Henry L= owther &= nbsp; Henry always gives tasks 100% of his efforts.&nb= sp; He treats students and teachers with great respect and he is an all-round wonderful child.

Grade 7

Jacob M= cCabe &= nbsp; Ja= cob has a strong commitment to academics. In addition, Jacob performed the role of Daddy Warbucks in the Fairgrounds Middle School rendition of “= Annie Jr.” Jacob is well-liked by his teachers and his peers. Jacob is a positive role-model for= other students.

Paul Ca= llahan &= nbsp; &nbs= p; Paul is an excellent student who works hard.&nb= sp; Paul asks questions and he does what he needs to do to be academical= ly successful. His terrific grad= es reflect the care and the effort that he puts into his assignments. If Paul doesn’t understand something he works at it until he does. His perseverance and his determinat= ion have earned him January’s “student of the month.”

Jaret J= ohnson &= nbsp; &nbs= p; Jaret is an excellent student. He is always prepared for class, does well in all his classes and is a pleasure to talk with in school. He has m= any interests including reading and making things out of clay. Jaret is always smiling and full of joy. He contributes so much t= o our classes. In a word…R= 21;His is terrific!”

Grade 8

Nicole = Mazze &= nbsp; &nbs= p; Nicole is an excellent leader and a self-directed learner. Nicole is a Student Council Representative who has provided exceptional leadership for Fairgrounds Middle = School. Nicole is a kind, caring individua= l who is always willing to help a teacher or fellow student.

Victoria Suslovitch= &nb= sp; Victoria is a mo= del student who achieves in each subject area.= Victoria is always prepared for each classroom activity. She is a positive contribut= or in our classroom discussions. Victoria is well-respected by her peer and she is a model student. Also, Victoria is a volunteer at the New Eng= land Aquarium.

Connor = Mawn &= nbsp; &nbs= p; Connor is a member of the FMS Student Council and has shown great leadership quali= ties for our team. Connor is a ser= ious student who does well academically. Connor is well-liked by his peers and he is respected by his teacher= s.

NEWS FROM THE BULLS

We ca= n not believe that we are about to finish the second trimester. The Bulls Teachers are very lucky = to have a group of wonderful students.

In Se= ptember, the Bulls enjoyed a fantastic sun-filled day at Camp Lincoln. We played games, kayaked, climbed = ropes, and even had fun with archery. We got to know each other and we learned a great deal about team work and resp= ect for all.

In Oc= tober, the Bulls were rewarded by the student council with popsicles for selling magazines. The team decided to celebrate the achievements of our students after Progress Reports by having= a “team day.” We sh= owed a movie and served snacks and juice. Also in October, the students wrote letters to soldiers in Iraq to= go along with the supplies that the teachers were sending to the soldiers. Additionally, we read “scary” stories such as “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow̶= 1; by Washington

Irving. We are proud of our “little” Bulls for their efforts with this reading assignment. They= have visited the library every three weeks to check out new novels.

When = November arrived, we collected items for the Student Council Raffle which was held during Parent Conference Night. Two of our Bull’s family won raffle prizes.

This = past December, the students enjoyed the classic novel, A Christmas Carol = by Charles Dickens. After readin= g the novel, the students acted out scenes from the play. They dressed in costumes, used pro= ps, and memorized lines from the play. It was great to learn and have fun at the same time. This was a good ending to the snow= that filled the month. =

Janua= ry brought a new year and new things to learn. We held our team spelling bee. It was not an easy task. The winners of the contest were Leah Swartz and Teja Karri. These two girls represented our team at the FMS Spelling Bee for a chance at the finals. Also in January, to o= ur delight, one of the soldiers we wrote to in Iraq wrote back to us. All of the students were thrilled!= Now some students have pen pals. Sadly, we said good-bye to Ms. Knu= even who moved from Nashua to North Carolina. We wish her well!

Now w= e are about to start the final trimester and we are looking forward to what is ne= xt for our growing Bulls. We kno= w that they will do great thing during the remainder of the school year.
