Inner and Outer Space Cadets

Ms. Rock’s science students are finishing up their year-long “training” as official Space Cadets!  Instead of a traditional final exam, students were able to choose from a variety of projects that incorporated many of the aspects of Earth Science that they covered throughout the year.  Students had worked together in groups to develop habitats in extreme environments, such as outer space or deep in the ocean.  The final projects are fascinating and highlight the students’ own creativity and ingenuity, as well as taking into account real science and technology.  The models, drawings, writings, and presentations give each student a variety of ways to show how much he or she has learned over the year, as well as giving each student a chance to build on his or her own strengths.  Each group did a terrific job.   Ms. Rock’s message to all departing 8th graders:   TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!

News from the Arts

School Resource Officer, Andrew Hagen, visited Mrs. Tafe-Fard’s sixth grade art class and discussed summer safety with the students.  The students interpreted their knowledge into layout and lettering design for the creation of safety posters.  Thank you to Officer Hagen!

In addition, Mrs. Tafe-Fard’s seventh grade classes studied architectural elements and perspective.  They applied their drawing lessons to renderings of the historic Edmund O`Keefe Auditorium facade.  Prizes for the best drawings based on capturing the architecture, perspective, and shading were given. The grand-prize winner was Bridget Kelley. The three runners up were Megan Carignan, Kyle Fair and Noah Beavers.  Congratulations!

City Year –“give a year, change the world”

Elm Middle School would like to thank the City Year New Hampshire Nashua Team for their Tuesday and Thursday afternoon homework help and after-school activities and sports for our students.  On June 3rd, the Nashua  City Year Team, consisting of Service Leader Christine Mulcahy and team members Ben Martin, Nikki Bordelon, Florence Warling, and Mike Hill, put on a wonderful Field Day for their students.  The Seacoast City Year Team consisting of Megyn McClure, Nick Baretto, Michael Saudino, Dylan Bailey, and Lucy Stricker came down to help! Students enjoyed pizza, snacks, and ice-cream sundaes and played games such as egg-and-spoon relay, tug-of-war and a water balloon toss. Students designed shirts and also participated in a whipped cream eating contest!  Special guests included Program Director Michallene Hooper and the 21st Century Team of Angela Delaney and Theresa Delaney and their program members. A great time was had by all!

Spring Carnival on Team 6-4

By: Ella Kruczynska

On April 25th, Team 6-4 celebrated a Spring Carnival.  Mrs. Comeau’s Math students had been studying probability. The kids had to design and finance a theme park on the moon. These parks came alive when each team of two kids built a carnival game based on one of their park designs.  Each student had to find the probability of their game and try to find ways to attract customers to play their game.  Also in the carnival spirit, Mr. O’Keefe’s Science classes had been learning and studying potential and kinetic energy. Students built roller coasters in teams of two to show the kinetic and potential energy. The students designed loops and hills - some looked like real thrills.  During the Carnival, people played games and had chances to win prizes, they also got a chance to show off their roller coaster designs. The weeks of planning and making these projects turned out to be a fun and enjoyable end to the month before April Vacation.

Elm Street Eagle’s Nest

The Elm St. Eagle’s Nest School Store had an incredible school year!  This would not have been possible without the dedicated students and advisors who participated in managing the store.

Advisors Lisa Frenette, Lauren Linscott, and Tammy Parent would like to thank the staff and students for all of the support throughout the year.  We are so proud of the students’ enthusiasm and involvement while participating at the School Store.  Their passion to make the Eagle’s Nest a success was undeniable.

Following are the students who went above and beyond while working in the school store! Each month we recognized students for their exceptional work ethic.  Some of the responsibilities included: marketing, design, customer service, cashier, organizing monthly raffles, stock, money management, inventory, advertising and promotion.
