Nashua School District Curriculum

The Nashua School District has accepted the responsibility to design and implement a comprehensive curriculum which is based on what we know about the world in which our graduates will participate and what we have learned from the expanding content of research about how learning occurs.

The world of the 21st century, in which our students will be the decision makers and problem solvers, will be very different from our world of today.  They will be citizens of the information age where the ability of the individual to access information, organize it, and synthesize it to solve problems and evaluate the results will be the skills needed for economic, social, and personal success.

Access to information and the tools to organize and analyze this information, will be based in technology which we can only begin to imagine today.  The connections and impact of actions will require students to think critically, globally, and systematically.

The importance of healthy life-styles, a respect for the environment in which we exist, and the ability to imagine and contribute to a just society will be essential habits of mind for tomorrow's citizens.

The ability to respect the ideas, beliefs, and viewpoints of others and to look beyond self-interest to focus on contributing as a member of the larger society will be required in this century.

To accomplish the challenge and implement a curriculum of excellence the community must acknowledge the role of the schools and provide the resources required to meet these challenges.  Students must see schools as their vehicle to self-fulfillment and their opportunity to enter the adult world with the competencies needed to succeed.  Families must support the schools by emphasizing and reinforcing the value of the school experience.

Through ongoing curriculum evaluation and review the Nashua community will be assured of a curriculum which will meet the learning needs of the 21st century citizen. For additional resources, see resources.
