Dropout Analysis

Nashua, like all school districts in New Hampshire and throughout the nation, is concerned about the student dropout rate. The dropout calculation is a complex formula that is related to the October and June enrollment data collected by the state. State statistics in the past have been compromised by the lack of a consistent

tracking system. With the advent this year of the NH Department of Education ID system, the ability of districts to track dropouts will improve.

Year Nashua Dropout Manchester Dropout State Dropout
2004-2005 4.7% 5.6% 3.5%
2003-2004 4.7% 6.5% 3.8%
2002-2003 4.4% 7.0% 3.8%
2001-2002 4.5% 7.3% 4.0%

As we continue to address the dropout rate, we are working to improve our ability to identify potential dropouts and to develop interventions that will promote success in school. There is no attempt to “discount” dropout rates or to hide a nationwide problem.
